Skorpion Mine - Namibia

One of Modek’s great success stories is the Anglo base metals mine, Skorpion Zinc, situated 25 km north of Rosh Pinah in Namibia.
The mine produces 150 000 tons of superhigh grade Zinc a year.  Modek Isophthalic sheets are used mainly in the Solvent Extraction (SX) area.  Skorpion Zinc mine previously used polyethylene sheets as side cladding and Modek Isophthalic NPG sheets for the roof covering.  The polyethylene sheets could not withstand the extreme aggressive ultra violet environment and severe chemical conditions.  These sheets lasted about two years.  This necessitated the investigation and implementation of Modek Isophthalic sheets.  A total of 7 402 m2 had to be recladded.  The project started during October 2007, and was completed in September 2008.
